Praava Health signs MOU with Ahsania Mission Cancer & General Hospital

February 1, 2018, DHAKA, BANGLADESH – Praava Health signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Ahsania Mission Cancer & General Hospital, whereby Ahsania Mission’s patients will have access to a wider range of cancer testing facilities at an affordable rate at Praava.

“Cancer is the sixth leading cause of death in Bangladesh. Each year, Ahsania Mission provides global standard cancer treatment for hundreds of cancer patients. This partnership with Praava, fulfills our aim to provide patients with world class treatment with targeted agents,” said Prof. Dr. Qamruzzaman Chowdhury, Director Medical Services and Head of Radiation Oncology, Ahsania Mission.

  1. October 2017, the first molecular cancer diagnostics PCR test in Bangladesh was performed at Praava. Oncology molecular diagnostics, including for colorectal, breast, cervical and lung cancers, has been most effective and can reduce cancer mortality based on early detection as well as disease management. In the past, patients requiring these tests were had their samples collected locally but sent abroad for testing. By doing these tests in Bangladesh, Praava minimizes error rates resulting from transporting samples abroad, substantially lessens the cost to the patient, and reduces turnaround times for reports.

Praava Health’s Founder & CEO Sylvana Q. Sinha, Esq., shared: “Bangladesh, unfortunately, has no cancer registry – something we hope to be part of building – but we believe the incidence of cancer is in fact much higher than reported. Molecular diagnostics in oncology has been effective in reducing cancer mortality based on early detection as well as identification of effective treatments. Praava is excited to be partnering with Ahsania Mission for their cancer testing needs and to have the opportunity to provide state of the art cancer diagnostic services for the first time in Bangladesh.”

Praava Health’s Senior Director, Cancer Diagnostics and former head of the Laboratory of Immunobiology in the Division of Interdisciplinary Medicine and Biotechnology, Harvard Medical School, Dr. Zaheed Husain said, “Ahsania Mission has been providing cancer treatment to patients in Bangladesh for over 15 years. This important collaboration aims to facilitate a bridge between patients being served at Ahsania Mission and Praava by providing access to the latest technology in cancer testing for the first time in Bangladesh. Rapid turnaround times are crucial when making decisions regarding targeted therapies for cancer patients.”
