Dr. Simeen M. Akhtar has over 30 years of experience working in local and international healthcare facilities. She completed her MBBS Degree from Dhaka Medical College and began her career working in icddr,b (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Diseases Research, Bangladesh). She moved to New York in 1981, where she completed her ECFMG and worked as a volunteer in Mount Sinai Hospital. She later moved to Thailand in 1985, where she worked in Panja Hospital in Bangkok and completed her DTM&H in Tropical Medicine and MPH from Mahidol University. Five years later, she moved to Washington, DC, and worked at Georgetown Medical Center as a visiting physician. In 1992, she moved to London and completed her Master’s Degree in Nutrition from Kings College.

Over the next two decades, she worked and pursued advanced degrees in healthcare in countries such as Spain and Malaysia. During the tenure of her career, she was involved in numerous seminars, workshops, and three JCI accreditations and earned accolades including the medal of appreciation from her Royal Highness Princess Mahachakri Sirindhorn. Dr. Simeen eventually returned to Bangladesh in 2009 and joined Apollo Hospitals as the General Manager of Quality Assurance. She also earned a Health Science Management Degree from North South University in 2014. Earlier this year, she became involved with Praava Health and serves as a Senior Medical Advisor. Dr. Simeen is deeply invested in community development and has an organization called Nari Kalyan Sangstha in her hometown Magura, which helps to rehabilitate women through skill development. She is also associated with several social organizations that focus on women empowerment, advocacy, and rehabilitation of leprosy victims.
